Acupuncture for allergies

Can we use acupuncture for allergies? Yes, there are some allergic conditions, such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever), eczema, even asthma where acupuncture can help. We would never profess to cure allergies using acupuncture, but the treatment certainly can be a useful adjunct in the fight to help allergic conditions

With regard to the viability of using acupuncture for allergies, there have also been several studies to show that acupuncture can have an effect in helping to reduce the uncomfortable and often distressing itch of eczema. A body of anecdotal evidence supports the view that it works well when used in conjunction with Chinese herbal medicine. One of the benefits of Chinese herbal medicine is much more than a blanket treatment of symptoms; it looks at the reasons the patient has contract the particular symptoms.

A 2009 study showed children experiencing appreciable improvements in less than three month and there here have been other studies around the world to back up these findings. One of these, published in The Allergy Journal, showed a significant reduction in itching intensity as a result of acupuncture.

And acupuncture certainly is able to help with the symptoms of seasonal hay fever – often after just a few sessions. When people suffer from seasonal allergies in this way, acupuncture has been shown to be a viable treatment for improving their sniffles and nasal symptoms. This ‘acupuncture for allergies’ treatment brings about local nerve mediated circulatory changes which help for example, to reduce mucosal (nasal) swelling and thus reduce a blocked nose. Within a few sessions this effect can last months and in some case break the vicious circle, sh that a person may be able to enjoy months being symptom-free without recourse to such medications as inhalers and anti-histamines.
